A new betting and lotteries bill was read for the first time in the 'House of Lords last evening.

The purpose of the measure is to amend the law with respect to betting on tracks where sporting events take place, including the law with respect to totalisators on horse race-courses, to author-1 ise, subject to restrictions. the es- tablishment of totalisators on doy race-courses to prohibit betting on tracks with young persons under seventeen. and pari-mutuel bet- ting, except by authorised totalis- ators, and to amend the law garding lotteries.
