OBJECTION OVER-RULED

Victim of Axe Attack Had Portuguese Sweethearts

A protest against any person of Portuguese nationality serving on the jury was made by a Chinese, Fung Po Wan, at the Supreme Court this morning, before the Putnine Judge. Mr. H, E. Lindsell, of the case in which he is charged with maliciously wounding with intent to main or disfigures, and with wounding his wife. Chan Lail *Ching.

Asked why he had objections toị a Portuguese serving on the Jury the prisoner said that Chan Lai Ching "had several Portuguese) Kweethearts."

Mr. T. S. Whyte-Smith, Assistant; Crown Selleltor, who prosecuted, submitted that this was not rea- sonable grounds for an objection.

His Lordship observed that it was not a question of nationality.

but that the accused considered that a Portuguese might be biased against him.
