New L.T.A. President Defends Conduct
OPEN TOURNEY FAVOURED
With a sound rebuke to crities of the 1933 American Davis Cup Cram and its directors, Walter Merrill Hall, now president of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, indicated there would be no change in policy this year.
In his Inaugural address Mr. Hull said the manner in which the last campaign was conducted was "above reproach" and the players merited only praise.
He stressed the point that Davis Cup play should be regarded only "as a sport" and said it should not be looked upon as a national calamity when the United States Team is beaten.
A
MERICA's representatives will fare much better on the gras reuri- of Wimbledon, England, than they have in recent years on the clay courts of Auteuil, France, Mr. Hall predicted.

BRIGHT PROSPECTS
FOR SECOND WIN SUNDAY'S CLASSIC FOR $25,000 PURSE
BRITISH ENTRY
MANY racing critics are of the opinion that Mr. Norman Church's Gallant Sir, winner last year, will shatter an American Turf record on Sunday by winning the Agua Caliente Handi- cap, valued at $25,000 for the second year in suc- cession.
Others, however, shake their heads and maintain that the crack will not be able to last the distance after having sustained a leg injury. early in the year, and name twelve in a probable field of 42 starters with as good a chance of win- ning. A horse has never won the race twice and the 14-year-old saying "they don't repeat" is on Sunday to receive its first big test in years.
