Estimating the amount of ex- cess funds at present available in this country at over £25,000,000, Mr. A. P. J. Fourie, Minister of Commerce, commented on the very sound'control of the money situation in the Union when he Jopened the 35th Annual Congress of the Association of Chambers of Commerce.

Increases up to 100 per cent, in the prices of wool in terms of last years' figures; a substantial improvement in the prices of other agricultural commodities; South a marked increase in Africa's external trade. Exche- quer receipts, and railway carn- ings and a healthy improvement! in the general monetary position together with the recent remark- able success of the Government: conversion loan at low rates of interest.
