ELIZABETHAN AND STUART MODELS SHOWN

Corsets have been worn by wo- men since very carly in English history. Recently there was held

an exhibition of "The Evolution of the Corset" in Fifth Avenue shop. New York, showing the progress of corsets from the time. of Queen Elizabeth of England.

Elizabethan Model.

One of the more interesting ex- hibits is from the Elizabethan period, made of linen overlaid with a course string-like thread. The framework is iron and wood. and extends outward over each kip in conformance with the style of dress worn during that period. The waist measurement is twenty-tw€T: inches. Another, worn during the period of Catherine de Medici, is constructed of a thin steel plate; welded together in a geometrical pattern, with holes drilled through the metal to allow for the sewing of silk, velvet or other material. The waist measurement in twenty and one-half inches.

This, in itself, possesses a fas- cinating scintillation of colour and brilliance.

Women are already wearing dresses of this new fabric, with silk velvet capelets (or capes with |scarves), in an old wine shade, the latter being lined with the shot moire,

Latest Novelty For Winter Costumes.

New Styles For Long Hair

The Individual Note.

KEEP THE NATURAL LINE OF YOUR HEADTM

The woman with long hair should pay special attention to her new winter colffure. Modes for short hair have not changed to any great extent but," with the old fashioned low buns becoming more and more extinct, colffures for long hair take on new and de- cidedly individual notes.

"

The main point to remember is

to keep a high, smooth line across the back of your neck.

Don't do anything to hide the natural line of your head. Most authorities agree that the natural Iine of a woman's head is, a thing] of beauty. Consequently, it is smart to wear the top of your hair unwaved and to concentrate on soft waves about the face, allowing your ears to show if they are pretty

ones.

COLOURS IN SPRING HOSIERY.

Beige Shades Easily Retain Lead.

Beige, sun-tan and brown are the most outstanding shades for spring hose. These shades remain popular on account of their wear-

ableness with almost every shade (except gray.

Gray has its numerous blending shades, but sliver-fox will be most in demand. Plain nude hose stili hold sway.

For sports, clock and mesh hose will be popular.

Scarves. Never So Fashionable.

Scarves have never been 50 fashionable. Or so necessary. They give to the top of one's dress, blouse, or jumpêr that high muffled look they should have.

Wide pins keep the scarf in place. The newest are four inches long, with correspondingly large initials in coloured enamel.

Initial brooches and clips goin pairs. Very up-to-date ones are, made of glass,
