These questions were with in an instructive lecture at the Wesleyan Guild Assembly Hall when Mr. P. Venkatesulu, the Principal of the Wesleyan High School, spoke on "Human- ity, its hopes and fears from Science."

The lecturer began by dividing human hopes into fundamental, 'higher hopes, and divine, against human fears, which he enumerated as starvation, suffo- |cation, and somnambulism.

How then, queried the loc- turer, have the hopes of humanity been realised by science throughị the ages?
