A Russian Builds Dual Purpose Fast Plane.

CRUISING SPEED FOR 270 MILES PER HOUR

The Seversky Aircraft Corpura- tion, whose president and chief en- gineer is Major Alexander de Sever sky, is bringing to completion one of the most interesting amphibian, planes yet devised in this era of all-, metal construction and design.

The former commander in the Imperial Russian Navy was charged during the war with the defence of Baltic Sea areas against German alr attacks. He led pursuit units over the ocean in the days when a flying boat or a seaplane that would crufse at 75 miles an hour was fust. Since then he has pondered the possibility of building an amphibian with the attributes of a fast pursuit plane bent. and the seaworthiness of a "The result in the racy looking mono- plane Am Gout. with retractiva wheels slotted through the floats,, feet 8 inches and a height of 9 feet) 9 inches. According to "Motor Transport," a trolley bus had the belter of al petrol bus in a test arranged by the general manager and engineer of the Rotherham Municipal Travs) port Department recently.

The test, which was largely one of acceleration, took place over a round trip of 9.90 miles. The atccpest gradient was 1 in 7, and

both vehicles were loaded go as to carry the same passenger weight.

The total number of stops made in the round trip was fifty-six, and the drivers were instructed to come

to a-dead stop at the predetermined start AWAY stopping places and again as quickly as possible.

The petrol was started at 80 yards behind the trolley bus, which completed the round journey in 37. minutes 11 seconds, with 42 minutes taken by the petrol as compared
