MR. ALFRED SMITH EX-GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK. IN AN OPEN LETTER ADDRESSED TO THE NEW YORK STATE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, YESTERDAY ATTACKED PRE- SIDENT ROOSEVELT'S MONETARY POLICY AND URGED SOUND MONEY.
He said that he did not belleve that the Democratic Party was fated always to be affiliated with "greenback" advocates. paper money printers, free silver advocates, currency managers, rubber dollar manufacturers, and crackpots.
"Our money standards must be absolutely depend able. This is the only thing to restore confidence," he said.
