I think it is time that we said a final good-bye to the lead of the fourth best. It has had a long hia- tory. After trials with third bests. where no high-card lend was pros- cribed by the authorities. Upon R. F. Foster founded his Eleven Rule.

The Eleven Rule, I need hardly remind my readers, is that if you deduct from eleven the number of pips on the card led by your part- ner, you affive at the number cards in the suit higher than the card led which the lender does not hold.
