The Navy will, however, be considerably strengthened dur. ing the first week in October when four destroyers with good talent on board, are ex- pected to arrive In the Colony from the North.

500 COMPETITORS FROM FOUR COUNTRIES NOMINATED
Manila, P.I. THE breaking of more world swimming records by Japan's youth-
Tful mermen is in prospect for the Tenth Far Eastern Olympic
Games to be held here in 1934.
The Japan Swimming Federation has nominated 14 stars, in- cluding 11 who were members of the team which swept the water speed events at Los Angeles last year, for the Manila games.
An appropriation of Yen 130,000 is provided for in the new | Japanese budget to send a delegation of some 150 athletes. Nearly 500 representatives of four Oriental nations, Japan, China, French Indo-China and the Philippines are expected to compete.
Indo-China has filed an applica- tion, which must be approved by the other participants, to sent - a team probably of 30 athletes. In addition an application was filed by Manchoukuo, but it was believ- ed likely that the Chinese would follow the policy of with-holding any recognition from the Japan- sponsored state.

a dual meet between the Japan- ese and Filipinos, but more re-- cently the Chinese have been showing to better advantage. In 1930, at Tokyo, India 'enter- ed a small team but lacks fands to send representatives next year.
May 12-19 have been tentatively set as the dates for the Manila games. A change to a later date, June 9-18, was agreed upon by the governing committee at the request of Japan, but word from Tokyo was
by Japan-was-impracticable.
