HINTS FOR AMATEUR NURSES.

Doctors' Orders Must Be Obeyed.

THE SLEEP PROBLEM.

People fall ill, alas, in summer- time as well as in the winter.

Having to stay in bed when the aun is shining outdoors in much worse than when it is cold and cheerless, and bed, hat water bot- tles and fires are rather comfort. Ing.

Here are a few tips which may be helpful to the amateur nurse of the household. It is not everyone. who can afford to indulge in the services of the hospital-trained expert.

Sleep.

Prepare the patient for thei night fairly early, but do not make settling down at a certain time irrevocable. When there is sleep- lessness sometimes the mere sug- gestion that it is time for sleep

causes a nervous reaction. It is better to watch for the first sign of an indication to doze, and make some small excuse to leave the bedside, if only to sit in another part of the room and write a let- ter, on the chance of sleep coming unnoticed,

Food must never be discussed with a sick person. Give as many jeurprises as you can, and, as 1 rule, a little nourishment should bej taken every two hours when feveri has subsided.
