LORD HAILSHAM DISCUSSES GRAVITY OF GENEVA SITUATION

LONDON, TO-DAY.

THE STIFFENING OF BRITAIN'S ATTITUDE TO GER- MANY WAS REFLECTED IN YESTERDAY'S DEBATES IN BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT.. WHILE LABOUR: MEM- BERS OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS URGED THAT HIT- LER'S ENVOY BE REQUESTED TO DEPART FROM“ ENG- LAND, THE HOUSE OF LORDS DERATED THE CONSE- QUENCES OF GERMANY'S POSSIBLE WITHDRAWAL~FROM THE DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE.

A marked change in British' opinion towards Germany has has taken place since, Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, the Nazi persecution of the Jews and Germany's opposition to the British Disarmament Plan, and this change was reflected in the tone of the debate on Disarmament initiated yesterday in the Upper House by Lords Cecil and Parmoor.

The juridical result of any breaking-away from the Disarmament Conference by Germany would be that Germany would be bound by the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, declared Lord Hailsham, Minister of War, during his statement to the House.
