The Kobe Shipowners Asso- elation has proposed a plan to relieve: Japanese shipping by the formation of a corporation to which all shipping companies shall subscribe for the main pur- pose of tying to 800,000 tons of more or less inefficient steamers.
The new tariff with its addi- tional rates of lumber and wheat has brought about further de- clines in shipping rates on these commodities, the quotation now being G$3.25 per 1,000 on lumber from Pacific ports and with little offering at the moment. It is more than probable that ship- owners will continue to decline. The Shipowners'
