LONDON beat Paris in the
lawn tennis match at Dulwich by 12 rubbers to 9. They had won the contest when Jean Borotra flew from Paris to partner A. Gentien against H. W. Austin and J. S. Olf.
It is interesting to hear that, the English pair, but Borotra pull- while Sarazen's recent proposal for

Austin, who golfers on both aides of the Atlan was fully extended in his singles tie, George Duncan has suggested by Paul Foret, afterwards declared an experiment in the opposite that he would never again play in direction, and the promoters of the trousers. annual short course professional championship at Torquay have ac cordingly in contemplation the use of a hole smaller than the regula- tion 44in. The Idea 'apparently is to increase the value of accurate putting, especially in regard to the long approach putt, and to obvlaté as far as possible the all too fre quent fluke in the short game.
This short course championship is to be held on May 23, 24, and changed into them, returned, and 25, and invitations to take part have been sent to the leading pro-match. But it is a moot point that proceeded to win the net and the. fessionals. As in previous years the referee should have reminded the competition will be a 72-hole him of the rule which says that medal on the Palace Hotel (Tor-play must be continuous Paris quay) short course, £250 in prize has now won 12 times and London money being offered by the pro- G prietor, In addition £100 is to be put up by the Torquay and South) Devon Club for a 36-bole medal competition on the

King's Shropshire Light Infantry Win.
Fielding the same. teams who had won through the semi-final stage, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and The 2nd Bn. Loyal Regt. met in the final of the Army Hockey Cup tournament. The trophy went to the Shropshires after a stubbornly-contested, gruel- ling game, in which they scored the only goal.
It was during the first twenty minutes, when the Shropshires set. up a tremendous attack, that the Loyals were shaken, and Lt. V. W. Rees went through to hit the all- important goal.
In the second half, the Loyals, who were undoubtedly the fresher team, fought back tenaciously. Though they were continuously on the attack, however, they failed to press home their advantage sum- ciently to beat the Shropshires" goalkeeper, Bandaman Bunner. Lt. J. W. Galaber, the Army and 1.S.B.A. welter-weight boxing champion of 1928 and 1929, and Lt. J. R. Cole were outstanding players on the defeated side.
