AUSTRALIA NAVY ARRIVAL

APATHY.

"Dammed Unless We

Wake Up."

Discussing the position of the Royal Australian Navy Captain H. J. Feakes, R.A.N., in a speech at Sydney, said that he agreed with what Vice-Admiral G. F. Hyde said last August

"We are ammed unless we wake up to what the sex means to us. If we do not recognise that it is the end of the British Empire, and of our White Australia. Great Britain was once the greatest sea power in the world, but now two other na-i tions have greater navies; France and Italy possess the fastest war- ships.

"It is tragic that vessels swinging around their buoys in the Sydney Harbour are not under way:

The apathy of Australians toward naval defence is leaving a very formidable problem for succeeding penetrations to face..

"The absence of opportunity for the youth of, Australia to take up a sen career is amazing. With an enormous coastline.. and unuanal facilities for awimming and surfing. they yet are unable to follow a calling which, in view of Australia's reliance on her exports, should be the natural one for many of them."

YACHT.

INTENDED CRUISE TO SOUTH SEAS.

Honolulu.

Boys who dream of sailing their

own ship some day to strange lande will be encouraged by the story of five local youtha who are fitting up a yacht for a cruise of the South Seng.

For these youths had no yacht and no money to buy one. But one 5th Apr. day they read in the papers that the owners of a yacht wrecked on the Walanne coast near here had 4th Apr. given up hopes of salvaging her. 19th Apr.

After obtaining salvage rights from the owners they rescued the 3rd Apr.motor and then spent days digging 20th Apr. the yacht out of the sand and dig- ging sand out of the yacht. Then
