This applies to dress and houses. Colour can be uplifting or depress- ing. This year colours are extreme- ly beautiful, and the newer shadings are helpful and becoming.

But women are not assisted by names. I don't know whether man- ufacturers of materials, wallpapers or paints leave the matter of nam- ing the colours to amateurs, but I find in every new book of colours most misleading descriptions of such familiar shades as terra- cotta and russet, lime and lemon.
