An inexpensive and effective theatre dress is contrived by skirt of black velvet brought on the bodice in pinafore-form, with aloeves and inner decolletage of white satin. The coatce can be in that wonderfully becoming and in- expensive white coney.

Those contrasting tops for day- time, worn with the pinafore-type of frocks, are young looking: Even for school they can look well. Navy serge, cut as a pinafore, with blouse and sleeves of dark red cloth, can be effective. The same may be said of brown, with a brown and yellow wasp stripe, treated in similar man- ner. This is a good hint for a brighter school uniform! It is economical, for the pinafore dreas of good quality serge can be varied If worn with two or three contras– ting blouses.

This same idea of the coloured corsage applies to the schoolgirl's for debutante's dancing frocks. One skirt of red accordian georgette or a moulded black gros-grain can well be worn with white, and a variety of pale abades in satin blouses or inner decolletages.

Useful for the daily worker is the aleave that is cut in two separate pieces, the "break" coming just {above the elbow, so that the girl |who has a lighter top sleeve to match a small bit of inner corsage aan detach her dark gauntlet cuff when work is finished.

Colour Blends That Surprise

Wine Or Medlar With Apple Green.

PURPLE AND BRONZE

Now that all the fabrics of fashion are presented with a soft surface it will be found much eat- ier to mix "odd" colours together.

It has been observed of late how weird alliances peculiar to

the "forties" are again appearing, as for example, a dull wine or medlar- shade of velvet blended with a similar fabric in apple-green. Naturally, material makes all the difference, and tones approaching to the crude must only be attempt- ed in fabrics of beauty. It is in rich ring, or panne-velvet that special shades from early Victorian days can look well.

One of the newest and most attractive evening ensembles is in u deep medlar tone in chiffon-velvet. The frock, cut princess style, has a dolman sleeve and a decolletage of bright apple-green panne-velvet. With this is worn a short flared cost of the darker shade, lined green, and bordered with mink. The same model would be good in purple and dull-gold, or cinnamon-bronze. These quaint colour revivals are helpful in assisting towards alteration and renovations of the contents of the modern wardrobe. An old model can often be given an entirely changed appearance by a dash of daring colour.
