Fight, Pelican-Fincher, you can tell them that at the station!" So to the police ata- tion he was forced to go, and only with the great difficulty was ho able to per- suade the inspector to allow him telephone to Sir Charles Trumpington. Having done that he felt a trifle easter in mind, for his chief had promised to come round at once to see what could be done. But Tape had to walt Sir Charles's arrival in the cells, which he felt was no highly dignified position for a rising light of the Diplomatic Office. He consoled himself, however, with the thought that he had at least got rid of the pelican, and that he had Travers's report safe in his pocket.

A WHOLE WEEK'S NEWSPAPERS IN ONE.

The annual meeting of members of St. John's Cathedral was held in the Cathedral Hall on January 26 under the presidency of the Very Rev. Dean Swann. Many important reports were presented for consideration. The meeting; together with reports on the annual meetings of the St. Andrew's Church and the Kowloon Union Church, is report- ed in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

·

China's need for men, who are men in the highest sense of the word, was stressed by the Headmaster (Mr. E. G Stewart) in reading his annual report at the Prize Giving of St. Paul's College held on January 24. The Hon. Dr. S. W. Ts'e, O.B.E., LLD., who has been a member of the College Council for eighteen years, presided over the gathering. A welcome was also extended to the Bishop of Victoria (Rt. Rev. Ronald Hall), who later distributed the prizes and certificates.

A full report is published in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL

The discovery of the manacled body of a Chinese man, who had been stabbed and strangled, his face battered with a stone, in Jubilee Road in the early hours of September 28, which later led to the arrest of four clansmen in the West Polat district, formed the subject of a murder charge brought against Chan Kan before the Pulsne Judge, Mr. Justice Wood, in the Criminal Sessions on January 30. Ac- cused was found guilty. The case is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

A popular wedding was solemnised on January 80, when Miss Grace Ho Tung, the seventh daughter of Sir Robert and Lady Ho Tung, of Hong Kong, became the bride of Mr. Horace Lo the well-known local solicitor of the firm of Messrs. Lo and Lo, Alexandra Building. The bridegroom is the youngest son of Mr. Lo Cheung Shu, of Hong Kong, and is a brother of Mr. M. W. Lo and Mr. M. K. Lo, pro-" mbient doubles tennis players in the Colony.

The wedding is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
