XLT Telegrama conveying Christmas and New Year Greetings.
A peculiarly audacious attempt to swindle an Osaka insurance! company would have succeeded} if a sharp-eyed clerk had not dis! covered that on the day, the vessel for which a claim was be- ing made was supposed to have put to sea, all coastwise ser- vices were suspended owing to a storm.
Then the police were called in. and the full story told. Klichi Nozaki, formerly a ship captain, acting in collusion with a chauf- four, a tow-boat owner, an ex- shipper, and a workman in the employ of the General Motors in Osaka, conceived the idea of swindling an insurance company out of insurance money.

FRIDAY,
On the strength of this police certificate, he next obtained the written testimony of the head- man of the same village. His accomplices in Osaka were duly Holhow, Pakhof and Haiphong informed of the "disaster" by Swatow, Amoy and Foochow telegraph, and an application was Japan, Canada, U. S. A., Central. filed with the insurance company and "South America and Europe for the payment of the insurance via Victoria B. G., and Europe money, amounting to Y.8,500, via Siberia As the application was in per fect order, the company decided to pay..
At the last moment, however, it chanced to learn that the day given in the application the motor-boat in question from as the date of the departure of Nishinomiya for Shikoku was very stormy, and all coastal ship- ping services were suspended for the day." The company's suspicions were aroused, and a clerk was sent to the spot where the motor-boat was said to have? met its fate. Naturally no conclusive evidence was found, and the fraud was discovered.
The Kobe Water police, who were communicated with by the insurance company, examined Nozaki and his accomplices, and Japan Chronicle.
