These old views of the Colony serve to illustrate the fact that the China Mall, the oldest newspaper in the Far East, was the first paper publish ed in Hong Kong. Founded in 1845, the China Mail was for years the official Gazette of the Hong Kong Government. The Government notification on February-20, 1840signed by Mr. Frederick WVA Bruce Colonial Secretary, reads: Its hereby, aglified that from and after the 20th in stant and until further orders the China Mail is to be considered the Official Organ of all Government Notifications."
