Under the French law a married woman can nominally do very little without the consent of her hus- band. Her legal status is still re- gulated by the Code Napoleon. under which hér husband her letters, veto may open her undertaking a business or pro- fession, nor can she administer her: own property, of generally, conduct her own affairs independently of marital control.

Yet, despite the Code Napoleon, there is no country in Europe where the married woman has greater, in- fluence in the management of her husband's business and! family laffairs than in France.
