TO STOWE SCHOOL:

Northampton's Strength

Behind Scrum.

J. A. Tallent, the English inter-: national three-quarter, has accepted an appointment at Stowe School, and Northampton are hoping that he will throw in his lot with them.)

He has not yet refused the club's invitation, and should he accept it! the "Saints" will be able to field their strongest three-quarter line for many years. With their won- derful pack Northampton should' have a splendid season...

W. H. Weston is to captain' the side, and it. is good news for the Franklin's Gardens crowd that Eric Coley has been persaaded to play for another season, and that Johnny Millward-the best scrum half-back who was never "capped"-will play until a successor is found. Even at the veteran stage, Millward bas. few superiors in the country to-day.

WOMEN'S BID FOR TURF HONOURS.

Miss Dorothy Paget And Lady Houston,

HIGH PRICES PAID AT DONCASTER SALES.

(By 'HOTSPUR.).

Lundun. September 9. All concerned with the industry of bloodstock breeding have had a surprise, as. unexpected as it has been most satisfactory, at the Don- caster yearling sales which ended yesterday.

Instead of values remaining at a low level there has been a progres- sive rise which was never so pro- nounced as on the last of the four days of the sales.

The total for the week is over 155,000 guiness, compar ed with 143,778 guiness last year. Some of the big buyers of the past may not have been purchasing, but there are a few notable exceptions. The Aga Khan, who won the St. Leger earlier in the week, yesterday paid 4,800 guineas for a colt by Sansovino from Waffles.

"

The success of these sales, in- deed the future of racing, must de- pend on the new money brought in. Lady Houston jumps into promin ence as a new owner on what looks. like being an important scale, though she has had a winner this year in the three-year-old R. B. Ben nett, Yesterday, buying through her trainer, 9. Darling, she paid 3,- 100 guineas for a ally by Beresford from Portree, bred in Ireland. - A minor purchase was 920 guineas for a filly by Sansovino from Happy Climax,

Lord Queenborough's daughter. Miss Dorothy Paget, whose agent was her trainer, A. B. Briscoe The Third Division.

helped along the good prices. She had expended a fairly considerable Radio v. R.A.E on Athletic's ground. Recreio South China at King's sum earlier in the week, and now Parkland
