THE CHINA

THRILLS PLANNED FOR NAVY WEEK.

Mimic Warfare Part - Of Programme.

100,000 VISITORS GOING,

Tea in the hangar of an aero- plane carrier:

A broadcast from a diving sub- marine; ..

.、 ༑

A battle with "pirates," who, by order of the Admiralty, will have clean water to swallow when they

fall overboard!

These will be some of the thrills provided for Navy Week visitors this year.

The festival opened on July 30th in three towns-Plymouth, Ports- mouth and Chatham.

Plymouth will provide the aero- plane carrier teas-and also allow ita visitors to walk under the keel of one of these vessels,

The most exciting event, how ever, will be the rescue of a British steamer from "Chinese pirates."

Last year this took place in the dockyard basin and the pirates

swallowed a lot of disagreeable water! So this year the authori- ties have arranged for the rescue to take place at sea

the water in cleaner!

. Many Visitors. Portsmouth's 100,000 visitors will take possession of the Nelson, the most powerful battleship in the world, and the Hood, the world's largest.

Or they will go back in history to the Victory, Nelson's flagship.

They will see men escaping from submerged submarines with the Davis apparatus, and "Mystery Boats" will show them how sub- marines were lured to their doom during the war,

A broadcast from a diving sub- marine, life-saving, and drill dis- plays have also been arranged.

At Chatham a hundred men will sing sea-shanties and there will be oldtime battleships in

which" visitors will be able to sail.

The Battle of Zeebrugge will be fought in miniature.
