Shanghai, July 6, The sudden downpour that swamped Shanghai yesterday just before 4 p.m. was respon- sible for the British Navy fore- ing a draw with the British Army in the return cricket match staged at the Shanghal Cricket Club ground. The Chinese Recreation Club received a shock yesterday at the K.C.C. when they entered upon the third round of their match against the Kowloon Cricket Club on level terms.
Ho Ka-lau and Yew Man-kit were almost certain to win their set, whilst the Lo brothers were expected to secure the necessary set for the match. The former pair won comfortably, but the Lo brothers were fortunate to make a draw of their set with F. V.
Four matches in the Lawn Bowla Open Championship were decided. yesterday with the following re- aults:

A large contingent of Oriental athletes, including the Olympic teams of the Philippines and Japan, and India's famed hockey team, arrived here to-day on board the liner Tatsuta Maru and were ex tended honours by the city.

The Chinese R.C. are now almost assured of success in the pre- mier League, though they have yet to play the Cricket Club in their final match of the season. The last time the C.R.C. held the shield was in 1928 after three consecutive successes,

The Kowloon C.C. registered their first win after six consecutive defeats when they narrowly beat the Radio by 5 sets to 4.

Paris Thursday. Disappointed at the progress made by Mme. Mathieu whom she was coaching, Suzanne Lenglen, the French lawn tennis star who turned professional several years ago, has y decided to return actively to tennis again. It is expected. that she will apply for amateur status within the near future in order to challenge Mrs. Wills-Moody's supremacy.

One of my many correspondents asks my opinion as to which is the best county side so far as the season has gone.
I think Notts-a fine all- round combination with a very able skipper. Arthur Carr knows the way, to get the best out of his men, and the manner in which he nurses Larwood is an object lesson to all- H.K.C.C.
