DIES,

Tragic End to Boxer on Eve of Success.

BRITISH FLYWEIGHT.

Tragedy marked the passing of Harry Connolly, a promising. British flyweight boxer. Two days before his death at the Highgate Hospital from the effects of poison he lost to Bert Kirby, the former British champion, on points. That night Mr. Syd Hulls, the promoter, tele phoned to Mr. Victor Berliner of the Blackfriars Ring requesting a return fight. Mr. Berliner agreed and also decided to stage the return fight as a top-liner. But the night the letter to Connolly was on its way Connolly died.

"This was Connolly's big chance," Mr. Berliner said. "He was on the way to the highest class, and was a fine type of youth, whom I was always glad to engage."

Connolly graduated from the Mary Ward Boxing Club, and was runner-up for the national amateur title three or four years ago. He was only. 24.

He had had a suggestion of eye trouble-a cause of increasing an xiety in boxing to-day-and was very concerned, as a young man with married responsibilities, about the opportunity to make, good.

Now it has come-too late.
