H.M.S. DARING LAUNCHED

40 Years of Destroyer Design.

With the recent launch of the 14th June new torpedo boat destroyer H..S. Daring at the Southampton Works of Messrs. John I. Thornycroft' and Co., Ltd., it is possible to obtain some idea of the progress of design. in this class of vessel during the past 40 years.

This is the third H.M.S. Daring to be built by Thornyerofts, a fact which emphasizes the lengthy con- nection of this firm with Admiralty 5th June construction.

The first Daring 6th June was built at the original Thorny- | croft Works at Chiswick in 1892) and was the first British destroy- er to be equipped with water tube! bailers which had been developed by Sir John Thornycroft.
