YACHT CLUB WIN.

Overland China Mail.

A WHOLE WEEK'S NEWSPAPERS IN ONE.

The first Investiture of the year took place at Govern- ment House, on May 2, a large number of guests being present.

The bright dresses of the ladies, mingling with the more conservative dress of the men, provided a colourful background for the ceremony.

The principal recipient among the honours list was Mrs. H. T. Creasy who received the M.B.E., others being Mr. Li Po-kwai, J.P., and Mr. Wong Kwong-tin who both re- celved Certificates of Honour and Mr. Abbas Arculli who received the decoration of an Associate Serving Brother of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. A full report of the occasion is given in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

*

With election day on May, 10, the contest for the vacancy on the Sanitary Board is becoming keen. Dr. Li Shu-far, a candidate, and Mr. F. C. Mow Fung, nominee of the Kowloon Residents' Association, have both made state- ments to the Press, outlining their policies and replying to the charges made against them.

Mr. Mow Fung repudiates the charge that he is in- terested only in Kowloon and Dr. Li Shu-fan outlines hier. past record and announces his policy.

Considerable interest is being evinced in the election, and much correspondence, involving letters from the can- didates, are printed in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

A fine tribute to the sterling work of Mrs. H. T. Creasy, M.B.E., Vice-President of the Hong Kong Women's Guild and Ministering Children's League, was paid by the Patrones (Lady Peel) at the twelfth annual meeting held at Government House on April 29. There was a large attendance of members. Addressing the gathering, Lady Peel took the opportunity of thanking, on behalf of the members of the Committee, their President, Mrs. Creasy for all that she had done in connection with the Ministering Children's League and Hong Kong Women's Guild. The meeting is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

Sub-Lieut. R. Tyrwhitt; R.N., of H.M.S. Orpheus, and second cousin of Admiral Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt, G.C.B., former C-in-C., China Station, was found dead at about 4.30 on the morning of May 8, at Stonecuttere Island, with a bullet wound through his head. A report of the tragedy Is given in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
