Nearly seventy thousand spec- tators gathered in the sunshine at Twickenham on Saturday to suu England beat Scotland and

regain the Calcutta Cup by two goals and two tries to a try.

It was a curious game, the sort of game which does not bear much analysis. I enjoyed it while it was going on below me, for it was full of liveliness and enloth, but the spell seemed to break when we talked it over afterwards.

As a matter of fact, very few games will stand up to analysis,

The first annual meeting of the local branch of the League of Nations' Society was held in the St. John's Cathedral Hall on April 15, and was well attended by members.

The Hon. Dr. R. H. Kotewall, President, was in the Chair. The meeting passed a resolution authorising the Committee to cable a message to Geneva assuring it of the whole-hearted support of the local body, particularly in its efforts to deal with the present situation in the Far East. The meeting is reported in detail in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.

Another successful year was reported by the Chair. man (Mr. H. Humphreys) at the forty-seventh annual ordinary yearly meeting of Messrs. A. S. Watson & Co., Limited, which was held at the Hong Kong Hotel on April 19. Mr. W. S. A dispute over an agreement for the sale of fancy suit-/ Ings from Paris was aired before the Chief Justice (Bir. Joseph H. Kemp, K.C.) in the Supreme Court on April 19.

The plaintiffs in the action are Messrs. P. M. Pinguet & Co., of 5, Queen's Road Central, who are suing, the Com- pagnie Optorg, of Shanghai, for damages for breach of contract concerning the price of the fancy suitings. The case, which is proceeding, is reported in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
