JUSTICE MCCARDIE ON
SPIRITUALISM
VERDICT AND COSTS FOR "DAILY MAIL"
PROSAIC MESSAGES FROM
SPIRIT WORLD.
(Reuter's Special Service.)
London, Yesterday.
Verdict with costs for the defendants in the libel case Mrs. Meurig Morris vs. "Daily Mail"-was returned by the Jury after an absence of more than three hours.
Mrs. Morris went into a trance after hearing the ver dict, and Justice McCardie ordered that she should be ear- ried out in spite of warnings from friends that it would be dangerous to touch her in that state.
Justice McCardie dissertated at length on Spiritual-. ism. He said he was anxious not to show too sceptical an attitude, but he said he could not see why this tiny world should receive messages, from the Spirit World about such "I am enjoy- prosaic things as "I have got a new tooth." ing a good cigar and whiskey sodas."

“HONOUR SLAYING" TRIAL.
Doctor's and Specialist's Evidence.
Varied reactions are reported on the Budget introduced by Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, yesterday, but Reuter's reports indicate that the predominent feeling is one of dis- appointment. The Chancellor's uncompromising remarks on the income-tax and beer-tax have crushed the hopes that relief would be extended, while many industrialists are perturbed at the in- dication given that new duties may be introduced. On the other hand, the considerable improvement in Britain's finances, and the extension of Imperial preferences have reassured most citizens, who now the assault, upon Mrs. Massie, see promise in the future.
