NOVEL IDEAS FOR EVENING.

Tunic coats for evening wear are made of gold or silver lame with buttons to match. A silver one, over a long black chiffon skirt, look- ed attractive, and formed a most original dinner suit. When the itunic was removed, it revealed a blouse top of deap cerise chiffon, with a low round neck and little pulf sleeves.

Evening pyjamas of dull black satin with silver braid at the side seams, worn with silver tunics, are) finding favour for home wear. And trousers of lace and satin are worn beneath plain long frocks of lace, chiffon or net.

A frock of thick black silk fish) net, with straight rose pink satin trousers under it, a rose satin rib- bon belt at the waist, and a satin rose at the cross-over corsange, is comfortable and charming for small informal parties.

In contrast to the trousers vogue, other gowns of transparent ma- terials are mounted on foundations of rustling taffetas. Women are taking to the idea quite happily, for they love the crispness of the rich silk. Plain silka of contrasting colours are effective, beneath lace! and net, and shot silks are good under chiffons and georgette.

This stiff silk foundation is the only one women will tolerate; every! other garment is as slim and close- ly fitting as a skin.

THE MINGLE.

Another new type of hairdressing for the Intest hats was demonstrat-: ed in London recently, It was christened "the Mingle," and will be becoming to most English-| women. The hair is cut to a pointi at the nape of the neck, but a clus- ter of little curls is left at the back and waved softly fowards the ears. The rest of the hair is thinned to show the shape of the head and the resultant effect has a pleasing ba [lance.

Extra curls are, of course, an easy solution for the hair difficulties created by the new hats. Some hair may not have grown thick enough to warrant thinning down and care- ful arrangement. For these heads, detachable curls, so easily poised behind the right ear, are advised to fill up the gap the hat reveals. A new method has been devised for pinning them, and they are not only undetectable but also so secure that It is practically a physical impos sibility for them to come loose. Ona advantage of wearing additional įcurls is that they can be arranged to suit one's hat during the day but rejected in the evening if desired.

A coiffure for the woman who seeks to be individual is gained by brushing up the hair into short curls at the back. These have to reach almost to the top of the head,
