Two exceptions only have been made to the club's hard and fast rule the Rev. F. A. W. Wilkinson, who is hon, chaplain, and Mr. R. R. Gleave, the hon. recorder.

At the first meeting of the old sailors they decided they must have a second name for their klub. One Bald, "Well, we are! old whales," so they called themselves;

the The Cachalots," which are best kind of whales. Now the pre- aldent of the club, Commander

Raymer, is known as "The Cap- tain"; the hon. secretary, Captain W. V. J. Clarke, as "the boat steurer and storekeeper"; and the commit-

tee as "harpooners."

These men who have pilotad ships through the Seven Seaa, meet weekly and discuss the intricacies of their profession. Once a week a genuine sea-ple supper takes place, and afterwards the rafters ring to the shouts and rollicking sea shanties which sent capstans turning a hundred years ago.

Now the club is to embark on a new enterprise. Premises have | been taken, and on the fourth anniversary of its foundation, the club is to move into a permanent home. Master mariners, home from: voyaging, can spend their evenings yarning with the older members who now sail their ships only in their memories..
