S'HAI VOLUNTEERS PARTLY DEMOBILISED

CURFEW HOUR PUT BACK

SENSATIONAL ARREST OF GENERAL WANG BY CHINESE BUREAU OF SAFETY.

The situation in Shanghai to-day, according to cables received this morning, is, apparently, decided- ly promising, and gives ground for the legitimate hope that further bloodshed and destruction of pro- perty will be averted.

The curfew hour, as on and from Saturday, is to be put back one and a half hours; the Shanghai Volunteer Corps has been partly demobilized; and American soldiers are expecting to leave Shanghai

soon.

If those competent to judge did not feel con- fident of the immediate future, it is unlikely that sach steps would be taken, or even considered.

Shanghai, barely released from a sequence of sensations, is now in the throes of another. It has been caused by the sudden arrest of General Wang Ken by the Chinese Bureau of Public Safety.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)
