NOW A THREE-MASTED VESSEL WITH COAL CARGO.

Channel Exploits.

One of the most famous of Q ships, the Mary B. Mitchell, has arrived at Falmouth with 8 cargo of coal. Even if no- the thing were known of history of the ship, her three masts and sails would attract attention. She is an auxiliary cruiser, and was |

responsible for sinking several Ger-

Two members of the crew who served in this mystery ship live in Falmouth. One is Mr. McKechnie, of Swanvale, employed as foreman of labourers at the engineering works of Messrs. Cox and Co. Here are some of her exploits. On the evening of January 7, 1917, she was 'caught in bad weather off Berry Head, east of Dartmouth. It was impossible to run into the nearest port for shelter, as awkward questions might be asked. On the following night the foremast and spars went over the side, carrying away her mainmast. A reefed stay sail was set, but she drifted with the gale towards Cahant. Signale of distress wore given, and flares kept burning until she received a tow-line from the Norwegian steam er Sardina, Near Les Pierres Light, a French torpedo-boat came The Mary B.
