BALANCED BUDGET MAYOR WU DROPS A

Highly Satisfactory Revenue Returns.

DEFICIT REDUCED BY NINE HOW WILL THE JAPANESE
MILLIONS.
Rugby, Yesterday, Revenue returns for the week ending March 5 indicate that re- venue continues to come in satisfactorily and that the econo- mies, forcensted in the revised Budget of last September, will be realised.
The total revenue received into the Exchequer during the week amounted to 26.6 millions and expenditure amounted to 17.2 millions, leaving a surplus of 9,4 millions, and reducing the deficit from 46.4 millions to 37 millions. This is 21 millions less than the deficit on the same day last
year.
There now remain three weeks and a half in which to secure the balanced Budget, which the late Chancellor of the. Exchequer,
planted, and there seems every reason to expect that this wil be accomplished. Income-tax re- quires only 17 millions, and Sur. tax 11 millions to secure the es- timate.British Wireless Service;

Rugby, Yesterday, The Chancellor of the Exche quer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, addressing the Unionists. Meet Ing to-day, said that he looked upon 1931 as Britain's year of danger, and 1932 as Britain's year of opportunity. Few could fail to be amazed at the change of affairs which had taken place ·· in the national outlook during the last six months. They were not, however, yet out of the woods.
