Rochester For African Service.
The new sloop Rochester, built and equipped at Chatham Dockyard by Sir W, J. Berry, late director of Naval construction, was commis- sioned and ordered to proceed to sea on February 22 for official! trials.
The Rochester has been selected: for service on the Africa station in place of the sloop Cyclamen which, built during the war, is to be scrapped. The cost of the Rochester, which is to be completed for active service by March 31 will be about £165,000.
