U.S. AND DISARMAMENT. Mr. Wickham Steed On World Crisis.

Speaking at the monthly lun- cheon of the American Chamber of Commerce in London, Mr. H. Wickham Steed suggested dis armament as a way out of the present world crisis. For the people of the world, he said, the crisis might be expressed in one phrase "United we stand; divided we fall."

Mr. Steed urged that it was one of the foremost duties of the people

of Britain carefully to study events in the United States and even to attempt to comprehend what might be pos sible in that incomprehensible world of American domestic politics. In these days the news service from the United States was pretty good, much better than it used to be when it was rare to see an informative cable- gram from New York or Wash- ington in any British newspaper. To-day we did get cables which, If read together, gave a fairly comprehensive view of what was faking place in the United States.
