The text of the circular letter? from the Chinese Guild reads:

"We beg to hereby give you notice that at a meeting of: members of this Guild held on December 24. a resolution was passed unanimously, and con- firmed at a subsequent meet ing held on the 5th inst., to the effect that as from 15th) inst. and on a special rebate of 1 per cent. fancy piece goods (woollen and cotton) and white grey cotton piece goods shall be given by all such sellers, as an important firm like yours, to all those buyers who are members of this Guild.

He was bare-headed at the time, when a piece of wood, six inches by four inches in diameter, fell from an upper window.
