As the lifeboat turned her nose to the open sea John caught sight of the clustered, huddled ships shelter- ing in the fold of the bay, riding safely at anchor under the lee of the land. The 'cox'n, cool and quiet, issued orders; John bogan to obey, but at each engulfing wave that sent green water swimming over the boat he felt his heurt quiver and tremble.

The lights of the safe ships were! asteen, the bout was alone amongst the great, grey rollers that sunk her into deep wells of darkness, only to lift her again to crests that were slathered with foam, like marbling on stone; he saw the lights of Ennis

Somewhere in thes darkness men and women were wait- ing for the lifeboat, that lone, brave speck that seemed the only thing afloat in all the grey waste of angry water. John found himself praying, that they might reach the wreck in time, and forgot all else.

He had only aved one mald, and she refused him: yet he felt that if he had been as the other young men there would not have been a "no" on the lips of Mary Penolver; he brooded over it. She had told him, net unkindly, that a shore loafer

Hypodermic Injection. The new treatment, which is ad- ministered by hypodermic injection, and can only be given by a doctor, has been in the hands of a limited number of practitioners for more than a year, and it is the results of their experiments which Major Nesfield summarises.

Stripped of technical language, the underlying principle of the new treatment is that it stimulates the glands to do their job, and thereby increases the resistance of the blood and tissues to disease and old age.
