PRINCESSES

OF THE PAST.

Mary and Anne of York.

At the age of three, Mary of York stood godmother

to her sister Anne.. These little girls were the daughters of James, Duke of York, the great sailor prince who changed the name of New Amsterdam in America to New York. Though James was the brother of King Charles 2nd, his little daughters were int considered of much import- ance, yet each of them in turn became Queen of England in her own right: the elder as Mary 2nd, who ruled with her husband William. 3rd, and her sister as Queen Anne.

"I still think it is a tree," she said.

Thereupon Mary said that Anne's eyes — which always troubled her were becoming worse every day.

Although they disliked learn ing, both sisters were extremely fond of drawing, and they had the strangest people to teach them.

WENDY'S LITTLE MILLINERS,

A Pretty Crochet -

Cap.

You will enjoy making smart little pull-on liats, like the one we're telling you about this week, won't you? You can use wool

or chenille, and you will need just over two ounces of either; also a bone crochet hook number ten.

Begin with three chain, and join into a ring. Then work three double-crochet into the chain next to the hook, one double-crochet into the next, and three into the next.. Run a plece of contrasting-coloured ́ ́ cotton into the little circle you now have, as a guide to the start and finish of each row.

Making A Toy Waggon.

To make this jolly toy, you will require some pieces of wood three-eighths-inch thick for the bottom and ends; some half-inch dowel rods for the side rails;

This toy waggon is really strong, and fit for small brother, to use; Carpenter tells you how to make it. and two strips of quarter-inch wood for the parts A.A. One or two other odd pieces of wood and four wheels will also be needed.

you are, I'm going to ask you to help me. Will you? Good!

I want you please to tell me what you think of your very own "Wendy Hut Corner." Say how you think it could be made even more interesting than it is, and put up suggestions for its im provement. I don't say all sug- gestions will be acted upon, but you may be quite sure they will be well considered. You may think the Corner would please you better if we put in different kinds of stories, "how-to-make" articles, "how-to-cook" hints, and so on. Or you may think of something quite different, which has never occurred to me at all.

See what I mean? This little Wendy Hut Corner is voted "the best ever." And if we get the ideas of the boys and girla who read it, and work up to these ideas whenever possible, simply can't help remaining the "best ever."

So do tell me your thoughts and wishes. TELL ME ON POST-CARDS, PLEASE, BE- CAUSE LETTERS TAKE A LONG TIME ΤΟ ΟΡΕΝ and we're very busy people in the Hut.

Mark your postcards "Ideas," and send them to me just as quickly as you like.

You may ask your parents and teachers if they have any suggestions to make too, because the more now notions we have the merrier the Corner will be..

If you think we're just right as we are, say so. It will cheer me up no end!'

This isn't a Competition, you know. Just a friendly call for help from the Hut Folk to their Clan. You'll respond at once, 1 know!

Love to you,

Wendy.
