Hero Tortured. Another story of the heroism of a member of the Legion is now being told. A French sergeant in Indo- China attacked a town single-hand- ed. He arrived at the town, it is sald, to find that rebels were about to hang 12 men. Armed only with a revolver, the sergeant drove off the rebels, cut down their victims and sent a runner to bring mem- bers of the Legion to his side.

The rebels, however, surrounded and captured the sergeant, and tor- tured him. The Legion found his body when they arrived a few hours later.
