·SAILINGS FROM HONG KONG SUBJECT TO ALTERATION.
WELLINGTON via Manita.
The claim, according to a docu- mont affixed to the mizzenmast is on behalf of the owners, master, and crew of the Harwich.
Captain Montgomery, the skip- per of the schooner, stated that the claim is for salvage amounting to £300, but he asserted that his vessel was not in distress when towed into Blyth. "In a port like Blyth," he said, "a tug was neces- sary because the schooner was not equipped with an auxiliary engins. The tug only towed her into port in the customary way."
17-MINUTE RESCUE IN MID-ATLANTIC.
When the White Star linor Laurentic berthed at Liverpool last month it was revealed that a mom- ber of her crew, a seaman named Robert Jones, had fallen overboard ia mid-Atlantic, and was rescued in Heventeen minutes.
As soon as the cry of "Man over- board!" was raised a lifebelt was {flung to him, and the 19,000-ton liner was at once brought round and hove to. A boat was then sent off to rescue the man, who, although still clutching the life- belt, was half-frozen by the icy water. Once on board he was hand- ed over to the care of the chip's surgeon and quickly recovered.
The rescue was A very smart piece of work, as less than thirty- five minutes clapsed from the time the seaman fell overboard until the liner resumed her homeward
course.
THE
