Further light was thrown on the murder of six Japanese, which, oc- curred at Tsang Foo Villas, on the night of September 26, at the Kow- loon Magistracy yesterday after- noon, when the 12 Chinese who are charged with murder made another. appearance..

A 'Strong Letter. Answering further questions, Mr. Gladstone denied having "worried" his wife while she was in Hospital. Neither did he tell her, while she was in an ailing or critical condi- tion, that the best thing she could do was to die.

In support of the question, Mr.vious witness, and

д agent, Brooks read letter written by Mr. Gladstone to his wife in very strong terms, suggesting that she took Her life as being the "only de- cent thing to do."

Cross-examined by Mr. E. S. C. Brooks, Mr. Gladstone said that ufter leaving thr employment of Caldbeck, MacGregor and Co., Ltd., of Shanghai, he became

then came to Hong Kong where he got employment with the Kowloon Godown Company. This post he left to all a position at the University and was now employed at the Hong Kong Hotel.

Mr. Brooks: In six years you held six different positions. It would be fair to describe you as somewhat of a rolling stone, Mr.

Gladstone?

Mr. Gladstone agreed, but quali- fled this by stating that he had held the Caldbeck Macgregor, position for 16 years before being discharg ed on account of reasons of

economy.

Mr. Brooks asked if it was not true that on March 12, Mr. Glad- stone went to his wife's flat at King's Terrace and attempted to take her away to Savarin House where witness was staying.

Mr. Gladstone: That is not quite correct. I undoubtedly went to my wife because I wished to con- ault her with regard to the amah who was looking after the children.

Mr. Brooks asked questions ro garding the late hour at which Mr. Gladstone proceeded on the mat ter. Mr. Gladstone explained that what he intended doing then was not to "carry" her to his boarding house but to "carry" her to her parents at the Peninsula Hotel. He denied by this having endca- voured to force her.

While waiting for her return to the flat, he saw her returning on the pillion seat of a man's motor bicycle.

Mr. Brooks: Did you write that letter?

Witness: It should be.

Without asking witness to say anything libellous.of the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Brooks put it to witness that the invitatioris to the dances were all sent by a reverend gentleman of Shanghai.

Witness: Perfectly correct. Mr.. Brooks: And you suggest they are improper affairs?---No.

A further hearing will take place this afternoon.
