Yacht Too Tiny to Be "Entered."
THE
CHINA MAIL.
DUAL CROSSING BY 27-FT. BOAT
Bristol, Aug. 28.
It was revealed to-day that during the recent trans-Atlantic yacht race, a yacht-only, 27 feet G inches long, was sailed across the Atlantic by two young men as unofficial entrant, her small tonnage making an official entry impossible.
Had she been a recognised competitor, it is stated that she would have been awarded the third place.
Previously this tiny craft had crossed the Atlantic from East to West.
The story was told by Mr. F. G. Cox, Vice-Commodore of the Bristol Yacht Club, who, during a visit to the South Coast, met the two yachtamen Ahto Walter, who is only 19, and C. P. Barber, aged 26. Mr. Cox said: Ahto Walter set sail in the yacht, which is called the Ahto, with his brother in July, 1980, They from Talinn (Esthonia). sailed down the Baltie to Copen- hagen, crossed the North Sea, and they came down the English Channel, calling at Ramsgate and Torquay. Taking their depar- ture from Penzance, they cross- ed the Bay of Biscay, where they hove to for five days in a gale.
Nearly A Disaster. They eventually reached Madeira, went on to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, and from there crossed the Atlantic to the West Indies. After cruising among the islands, they called at Miami, Florida, where Ahto's brother left.
"While looking for a shipmate Ahto met C. P. Barber, who was spending a holiday at Miami, and

Before the tests took place the ship's company had been confin- ed in the after-part of the ship, and as the explosion was in the bows they were out of danger.
Tugs Stand By. There were also Government tugs in the vicinity, and as soon as information was received by shore the naval authorities on that the battleship was leaking more tugs were sent out and dockyard officials also went on board..
The ship took a slight list as one of the torpedo flats and ad- jacent sections flooded, but the pumps kept the water under con- trol and temporary repairs were at once effected. The vessel was towed back safely in the evening to Devonport Dockyard.
