NEW P. & O. LINER.

The liner Strathaver, the latest addition to the P. and O. fleet, i arrived at Tilbury on September 4,| in readiness for her first voyage to Australia from the Thanies on October 2. She had come round from the Clyde with a distinguished | company aboard. It included Lord Inchcaps (chairman of the P. and O. Company) and Lady Inchcape and Major General Sir Granville Ryrie (High Commissioner for Aus- tralia).

Presiding at a dimmer on board the ship Lord Inchcape said that shipping, like every other industry, was passing through bad times, but he was not without hope that the trade of the British Empire would weather the storm, determined as all classes of the people were to stand up to their obligations, to live within their incomes, and to economist in every possible way.

"We have a noble example in Australia, and we have the greatest respect and admiration for Mr. Ramsay MacDonald and Mr. Snow- den for the masterly decision they have arrived at in forming a National Government with the view to saving the British Empire."
