SOUTH CHINA WIN

CHAMPIONSHIP.

Japanese Give Great Display,

SEASON CONCLUDES.

To the South China lade, and their supporters, the game on Saturday against the Japan esc zit Caroline Hill meant the shield, Rad with it championship honours for the season, but to the men from the Land of the Rising Sun, it spelt disappointment. The Nipponites beaten in the all-important match of the year, but what a glori- ous defeat! Honda and hla gang of terry ball tossers have reason to look back on the match proudly, for they were only benten by the odd run in seven.

were

Young The Hero, Thus the 1931 baseball Season was brought to an end. To South China and their supporters, con- gratulations for recapturing the much coveted shield. It was by far the most interesting ball game seen on the Caroline Hill diamond this year and a definite decision could not be arrived at until two extra Innings were played. The here of the match was Young, the South China heavy-batter, who slammed the ball for the circuit run in the seventh innings. .

Two Similar Runs. The Japanese batted first, but their rivals drew first blood, for after, plicher Goo had blanked the Nipponites out, South China went in to open their scoring through Matty, Chang, who first had a walk, than stole to second and third bases, and then trotted home on an error by Miki This was, however, the

only run they scored, for from this point onwards there was no scoring until the beginning of the sixth when Suzuki crossed the plate on an error. This run was scored in very! much the same way as the rum which went to the Chinese, in the first innings, for like Matty Chang.) Suzuki had a free ticket to first, stole to second and third, and then home.
