RAIN SODDEN WICKET.
Manchester, Saturday.
It was not possible to commence play before lunch to-day 'In the third Test Match between England and New Zealand. Rain censed carly this morning but continual rain yesterday caused the wicket to be sodden in parts and the out field was water-logged.
The weather does not look too promis. ing.
Later,
The weather conditions have changed completely, the sun is shining and a blue sky is overhead, and a fine day looks assured. The wicket itself and the outfield as far as appearances go look nearly “normal,”

The 10th innings saw some very active hitting by the Americans. With one man down and 2 of his comrades on the 2nd and 3rd base. respectively, Thurman, their skip- per went in to face Miki who was pitching at his best. He missed the first ball deliberately in order to let Herter run to second. He met the, next one with a mighty swing which drove the ball clean past the left field and helped to bring two. of his side home, while he himself reached third easily. The score now
read 3 to 1 in favour of the Amer- lenna. Another run was added be- fore they were all out. Thompson hit the first ball and brought Thurman home. The score at the elose of the first half of the tenth A. Pinninge was 4—1.
