CYCLING BOOM IN BRITAIN.
Turned Out by the Thousands.
AGAIN FASHIONABLE?
Apparently a trade boom has been created in the Birmingham area by a brisk demand for pedal cycles. Increased orders come al- most wholly from the home market. The most up to date pedal cycle may be acquired by an initial pay- ment of 108.
One firm is turning out 1,000 machines a day-nearly twice as many as at this time last year and hopes to equal the record of 1929, when 360,000 cycles made. The firm in question also antleipates increased riders from India in the Autumn.
were
Another firm reports a steady in- crease in orders for women's cycles and there is a revival of the demand for the tandem. It is difficult to account for this boom unless many who went in for small motor care or motor cycles have decided they cannot afford them.
Perhaps cycles are going to be- come fashionable again, and they seem all very well in quiet districts but in big towns with endless motor traffic they look very dangerous and one has need to be an expert rider.

carry on negotiations in the realm! of sport so that the Gymkhana could participate in the M.C.C. and Quadrangular matches on terms consistent; with the self-respect of! the Hindu community?
No arrangements are to be final- ly concluded until the same are accepted by the general body.
basia
The meeting was strongly of opinion that the time had now ar rived when tournament cricket matches on a "communal Bhould be discontinued and matches on a non-communal basis arranged. This compromise re- solution was adopted after nearly. two hours' lengthy discussion. One section was opposed to participa- tion in the M.C.C. matches or any other matches, organised by the All-India Cricket Control. Board, which was not a representative, or ganisation.
The Hindus, the majority com munity, were not represented on it. The M.CC. visita were too costly and there was no, adequate return for the money spent.
Another school agreed that the Cricket Control Board was not re- presentative, but it was purely a matter for negotiation and on, no account should the Hindu Gymk- hana refuse to play matches with the M.C.C. and in, the Quadrangu- | Flar Tournament, The purpose of last year's resolution had been served.
