TEAM-WORK LACKING.

At Caroline Hill on Saturday the U.S.S. Helena beat the Hong Kong Baseball Club by 9 runs to 8 in game which tended to become dull in the latter stages.

The main feature of the match was the brilliant home run hit scored by Zafra in the third Inn- Full resulta as cabled by Reuings. Gittins won the to 2. 50 yards free style, being a fifth of a second in front of W. Law- rence, the former winner. Gitting* time was 26.175 seconds,

Four competitors faced the start- ers in the 100 yards free style event, which proved to be a farce, and had to be re-swam. At the word "go" it appeara, that Law- rence did not leave the boards, and thus the rice was quashed. It was decided later, though, and Low- † rence won in 60.4/5 seconds. Gittins was a close second.

Miss Phyllis Hunt won the 50 yards ladies handicap, her sistor, Doris being second.

The fifty yards hurdles for mem- hers proved to be ก welcome | novelty race. The competitors had to swim over and under poles. af ternatively. The final of this in- teresting event was won by E. da Roza; his time being 73 seconds.

Ed. da Roza, once again, gained popularity with the spectators, with his spectacular series of dives, which included the back jack-knife, the one, and a half somersaults, and the "fying Dutchman." His colleagues supported him well with their fancy dives, all of which were received with applause.

CORRESPONDENCE.

THE HONG KONG HOCKEY CLUB

[To the Editor of "Chiva Mail"] Sir, Referring to the report on the annual meeting of the Hong Kong Hockey Club and the com- ments on the proposed hockey League may I enquire what is the Fundamental difference between the Hong Kong Hockey Club com- peting for the Sim Shield and com- peting in League games for trophies open to all Clubs?

N

The attitude of the Hong Kong. Hockey Club on the question of the question of the proposed League appears to be somewhat selfish and narrow minded,,and, seams to, In- dicate that the leading hookey Club of the Colony is bent on: main taining Its unique position as the only competing civilian Club for [Sim Shield honours, rather than fostering general Interest in the

game.
