A WHOLE WEEK'S NEWSPAPERS IN ONE.

Hong Kong experienced its 'first blow of the season on Saturday (August 1) when a typhoon, travelling at the speed of 196 miles per hour, swooped down on the Colony and wrought great havoc to matsheds and other unsubstan- tial structures. Kowloon, on the whole, seemed to have fared the worst, but the storm was over within four hours. A full report of the gale is contained in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL. Order your copy now to send Home.

Much interest has been taken in an application made by Mr. F. C. Jenkin in the Supreme Court before the Chief Justice on behalf of two natives of Annam, for an order nisi that a writ of habeas corpus be issued and directed to the Superintendent of Victoria" Jail to bring the bodies, of the two applicants before the Court forthwith. Mr. Jenkin, in the course of his application, said that the applicants were arrested by the Police on June 6, without any warrant. The OVERLAND CHINA MAIL contains a full report of the proceedings.

The death occurred on August 2, at his residence, No. 1, Park Road, of Mr. Fung Ping-shan, at the ripe age of 73 years. He was an unofficial Justice of the Peace, and a life member of the Court of the University. He did much to forward the cause of education in the Colony. This is chronicled in the OVERLAND CHIŅA MAIL.

In the Supreme Court on August 4, Sir Joseph Kemp, K.C., C.B.E. (Chief Justice), heard an application made by Mr. F. C. Jenkin in 'the matter of the estate of Thomas Frances O'Sullivan, late of 44, Robinson Road, "whose death may be sworn to have occurred in the month of May 1930." It will be remembered that Mr. O'Sullivan was missing since May 8, 1930, when after visiting his son at St. Joseph's "College he, in company-with-his daughter, Maureen, went to the Public Gardens. He suddenly disappeared and was never seen again, even after a thorough combing out of the hill and district. A full account is contained in the OVERLAND CHINA MAIL.
