SUPPLY.

The heating und hot water sup ply equipment are served by seven Robin Hood "Major" Boilers, manu- factured by Messrs. Beeston & Co... Ltd., of Nottingham. Each boiler measures 84% long 431⁄2" wide by 69" high and is capable of develop ing 1,056,000, B.T.U.S. per hour Owing to the extra long he travel, this type of boiler is most suitable for the use of fuel oil, as will be used on this installation..

A fuel oil storage tank having a capacity of 36 tons, and installed in the lane between Gloucester and Exchange Buildings, will be connect ed by means of a pipe line and pump to the fuel oil burnera which are of the Ray "Rotary" type, with automatic air and oil control, By this device any desired tempera- ture can be maintained. Variations in the load being taken care of by the automatic air and oil control, which are operated by a thermo- static valve mounted on the boller.

according to demand. With the larger boilers this is impossible, the only method of control available) belig, the adjustment of the burner. While the burner control gives a fair range, it cannot compare with cutting out. a boiler unit. Again it must be borne in, mind that on the smaller units we still have burner control.

The system employed to dis- tribute heat throughout the building is that of accelerated hot water. Centrifugal pumps of a special de- algu, which do not necessitate a re-; duction in the size of the return; mains or. require valvea or by-pass, have been supplied by Messrs. Halden & 'Brooke Ltd., of Manches- ter. These pumps which are known under the trade name of "Selfix" may be removed from the line for overhauling without in any way in- terfering with the service, in spite of the fact that they are not by passed. In fact it can be said that the entire system has been designed for survice with economic running charges, the question of initial cost not being the sole consideration.

280 Radiators.

Two hundred, and eighty radio- tons of the "Hospital" type made by Messrs. Beeston Boiler Co. Ltd., and designed to avoid the collection of dust are fitted to walla 9' clear of floors. These radiators are fit ted with a Double Regulating Self Indicating Valve, which permits the occupant of any room to adjust the temperature to individual re- quirements.

Two Healing Sections. The heating of the building is divided into two sections and de signed actually as two separate systems. This course was consider ed advisable owing to the widely different uses for which various parts of the building Are intended:

The floors from the ground to the third, being for shops and offices, will not require beating for a long a period as those from the fourth floor to the roof, which will be used for residential and public pur poses.
